I think there is a fair amount of confusion about some areas of the rules for the sport biplane class. I would have raced as a fill-in in 2009 if I had gotten an answer earlier so I could race my 2 seater as a fill-in.
When I requested an answer from RARA the answer came when it was too late to attend the PRS.
The aircraft I am currently building will meet all of the sport biplane class rules , but I was hoping to get some race experience before it is finished. To say the least I was a little bummed out in the timing of the answer to my questions regarding the fill-in aircraft rules as it kept me from racing in 2009 and my presence was needed to help the class.
A better understanding and better communication will help everyone have fun and preserve our class. I am new to this , many of you have put in much time , $$$$, blood , sweat and tears into this. I will do what I can to contribute to the class.
Matt

May I express apologies to you, Matt, that things were not organized enough to get you in the show for 2009. I hope you will try again next year because we would love to have some more competitors. We are trying to fix things. If you have any questions about our class and/or racing in general, feel free to contact me directly at glandre@sbcglobal.net . I've been at this for 4 years and love it!
cheers...George Andre. Team Zipper Air Racing

Thanks George,
I plan on racing my 2 seater in 2010 as a fill-in , or if the rules change to allow the 2 seat racers in the class I will put a fixed pitch on and join the fun that way. I am making progress on Jen's Fury and will get some pictures posted by the end of 2009.
I was at Stead last week on business and stopped in to see what it looks like when the races aren't in progress....open and bare !
Thanks again,
Matt

Matt-
I second George's sentiments about not having you up at Reno this year, and look forward to you being there in 2010. Please feel free to contact myself or any class members with your questions.
Thanks,
Jeff Watkins

Matt,

Let me add my enthusiastic welcome to you to the Biplane Class of pylon air racing. We presently have a few problems that need immediate attention but I believe we'll work together and have a better organization in place for Reno 2010.

You mentioned that you plan to bring a 2 place to PRS next year, is that a Pitts S-2A???

I look forward to seeing pictures of your new racer.

My current 2 seater is an aircraft I designed and build and have been improving since 1999. It is unique in that is side-by-side seating and still goes relatively fast. 184mph @2600 RPM AND 27"map. Engine is an IO-360 angle valve. I look forward to bringing it to the PRS in 2010 and to the races.
I will post some pictures of it soon.
Matt

A fill in aircraft such as a Knight Twister KT-85 or KT-125 is not legal either, as they do not conform to the wing area and wingspan criteria. This arbitrary rule restricts participation as is not safety related.

GET READY TO VOTE ON RULES CHANGES RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.
IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE SUGGESTED CHANGES, THEN FOR SURE VOTE NO!
IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE RESULTS, BUT DID NOT TAKE THE FEW SECONDS TO VOTE, THEN KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT NEXT YEAR AT RENO.
HAPPY NEW YEAR..........ZIP
