Hi

I have a reasonable amount of Pitts time and it has always been an ambition to race Biplane Class at Reno. I am based in Australia and am trying to figure out some logistics.

I am really not sure what a competitive aircraft is going to be, I really just want to race for some fun and give it a fair go. I have read the rules and from what I understand is I need to attend PRS in July before I can race. Looks like I have missed out this year.

From a logistic perspective, are there aircraft I can hire for PRS? I dont have an FAA license so would need to sort that.

I have an S1D which I am putting S1S wings on, Twisted 7660 prop. I will have the D wings as a spare. I have another couple of aircraft under construction. I guess I would need to put this S1 in a container and ship it out. Are there any A&P's at Reno Stead who could put it together?

The other option would be to take the D wings with the M6 airfoil, build a new race specific aircraft and keep it over there if I wanted to race regularly. That would pose some problems unless I can find somewhere to keep it and someone to fly it from time to time to keep it in order.

Sorry for the stupid questions, any assistance would be highly appreciated. Not sure how to approach it!

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

In response to your email to the Biplane Racing site, I have much experience with Pitts Specials and own many hangars on a Southern California airport, and I race. Please feel free to consider that I could readily hangar and fly from time to time a USA based aircraft for your coming racing endeavors. I have enjoyed air racing since the early 1960's and am anxious to assist newcomers. You can contact me at tom@aberlecustomaircraft.com and again feel free to ask whatever questions with which I may help. Tom Aberle
